Technical Tips for 3D Printing
3D Printing Tips for Geodesic Domes
Printing a geodesic dome of a geodesic structure can be tricky:
they don't like high speeds and extreme temperatures.
But good news: even if the result isn't “perfect” to the eye, your foams will love these little imperfections to hold on to! 😉
Recommended material :
-
PETG (preferably) - perfectly suited to aquariums and aquaculture (including water + acid). Alternatively, opt for a food-contact certified filament for optimum care of the water and your favorite residents.
Printing information :
-
The photos show prints in Black and transparent PETG, without support, made on a simple Ender 3 Pro, with :
-
nozzle 0.4 mm
-
higher layer height possible (fast mode)
-
-
Depending on your printer, your filament and your speed, you may need to add a light support for the top of the dome.
→ This model is flexible, so feel free to experiment.
Model reliability :
I tested these STLs on several printers, but the final versions visible in the photos were printed on a Original Ender 3 Pro, simply equipped with a BLTouch and a PEI plate :
-
Models are fully 3D printable ✅
-
They work with most FDM printers, even old and/or classic
Pro tip:
If it prints perfectly on an Ender 3 Pro...
👉 then it'll look great on your printer too.
Take your time, adjust your speeds and temperatures gradually,
and enjoy the pleasure of seeing your geodesic domes integrate into your aquarium 🌿💧.
