Description
The set of right and left extension brackets designed by Apiobi can be 3D-printed in colors that match your apiary.
It allows you to extend the Nicot takeoff board while maintaining the same angle, to help the bees and make entry and exit smoother during the honey flow 🐝.
Our model is exclusive, durable, and easy to install:
- For an 18 mm board. Our extension pieces are used with a board of 18 mm thick and 430 mm long (Dadant), which sits flush with the front edge of the Nicot hive floor. We use an unplaned board that is 70 mm wide and 18 mm thick, made from untreated wooden pallets.
- Proper tilt. The slope has an angle of just a few degrees—enough to allow bees to land and take off, for bees to remove waste from the hive, and for water to drain. The extension is a perfect continuation of the Nicot bottom board and its slope—not a 20% ski slope.
- A robust and secure extension. 2 milled mounting points on the sides and 3 optional ones on the bottom. The screws are used to securely hold the board between the extensions. Once screwed in place, the assembly becomes integral with the hive body and can only be removed by unscrewing at least one side. Use 3.5 x 20 mm, 25 mm, or 30 mm wood screws.
- Designed to fit the Nicot floor. A short, reinforced structure with inserts that fit perfectly and deeply into the side structure of the floor. The carefully designed structure makes it easy to install planks of various widths, up to 100 mm (and wider, but for what purpose?). The extension is initially self-supporting thanks to the extension brackets and is simply held in place by the side screws at the appropriate spacing.
- 0 damage, 0 changes to your Nicot floors : Do not modify or drill holes in the Nicot plastic base.
- A real tool, not just a gadget. The design is the result of pragmatic analyses (we have populated hives!), insights from experienced beekeepers, and verified, reliable sources. The result is an ApiObi innovation that is not available anywhere else on the market for beehive accessories and components (3D, manufactured products, specialty stores, etc.).
- For the price listed, you can immediately download (link included in your order confirmation) the PREMIUM 3D files in STL format for the right and left extensions. You can access your purchased files at any time—with unlimited access—by simply logging into your account.
The extension kit was installed right in the middle of the honey flow without any trouble. As soon as it was set up, the bees immediately took to the extension…as shown in the video.

Technical Tips for 3D Printing
Orientation: flat, with the inserts facing up
Support: no
Materials : PETG, ABS, ASA; obviously, no PLA. Materials certified for food contact if you wish—since 3D printing offers this unparalleled advantage.
Personally, I print with PETG (Photo and Video)
We recommend using a 0.6mm nozzle with 4 walls and a 35% infill for increased strength. Otherwise, use a 100% infill.
A 0.4 mm nozzle is ideal.

Hello, I mostly use 15 mm boards, not 18 mm ones (I don't really see the point of such a thick takeoff board, anyway). Is a version for 15 mm boards planned? Thank you

I chose an 18-mm thickness because it offers better resistance to warping over time, particularly when exposed to heat, the elements, and changes in humidity. This helps ensure that the takeoff board remains flat and durable.
That said, I fully understand your decision to use 15 mm boards, and I agree with it as well. A version compatible with that thickness is definitely possible, and I can post it online early next week.
