Weight : 2.3 g (depending on print finish and fill ratio)
Buoyancy and strength : excellent
👉 Add silicone tubes for floats for assembly.
Many anglers prefer floats plastic rather than balsa or foam, as they enable better line loading. It's all a question of preference.
If you have already printed an object to be watertight or hermetic (such as a vase or a float), you know that this requires a little perseverance and specific slicer and printer settings. But it's perfectly feasible with a FDM printer, and the result is perfectly functional.
Our models are designed for 3D FDM printing. They are designed to meet the specific needs of anglers, and are engineered, printed and tested several times in real-life fishing conditions until optimal results are achieved. 🎣
Technical Tips for 3D Printing
To be watertight and solid, the walls must not be less than 1.2 mm thick, and must have a minimum of 3 walls.
Infill: 0 to 5 % maximum (personally 0 %).
Filament: PETG is both strong and flexible. Transparent or white versions are perfect for floats.
Nozzle: 0.4 mm maximum.
Layer height: 0.12 mm.
Slicer: the float must be printed flat with supports.
That's how I do it, but you'll get just as good results with your own favorite settings.
Application of a scaling factor: not recommended due to the proportions of the model.
Post-processing and finishing
The float can be painted and/or varnished to improve its visibility.
The varnish fills micro-holes, reinforces rigidity and guarantees watertightness.
👉 3 coats of varnish are recommended for optimum finish.
For those who want to go fast or don't want to tinker too much, fluorescent nail varnish is perfect for the antenna, and a can of acrylic gloss or matte varnish costs less than €3.
Print test protocol
Prototyping and 3D printing tests for this float were carried out on a well-tuned ENDER3PRO with PEI+BLTouch, to prove that our models don't need the latest 3D printer technology to be perfect.
If the print is excellent on an ender 3, it will also be excellent on your printer!
🎣 Fish-ON!
