Technical Tips for 3D Printing

Easy to 3D print - Flat and ultra-solid

This model is designed to be easy to print on any standard FDM printer. It is compatible with PETG, ABS or ASA, with a preference for PETG, which offers the best combination of rigidity and durability for use in beekeeping.

Printing tips

With 0.6 mm nozzle:

  • Layer height: ~0.30mm
  • Filling : 100 % for maximum strength - supports the weight of heavy frames without bending or breaking.

With 0.4 mm nozzle:

  • Layer height: ~0.20 mm
  • Filling : 100 % to ensure maximum rigidity.

Other recommendations

  • Supports: very little; the model can generally be flatbed printing without substrate.
  • Tray adhesion : use a glue stick or PEI surface for best results.
  • Filament : the Blue PETG was used for the fully validated final products shown in the photos.

💡 Tip: printing with 100 % filling guarantees that the frame support can carry several kilos safely, which makes it a reliable, durable tool for real-life hive inspections.

⚠️ Avoid PLA, which is not sufficiently resistant to mechanical stress and beekeeping conditions.
