Technical Tips for 3D Printing
🔧 Printing recommendations
- Material : food contact certified (see recommendations).
- Nozzle : 0.4 mm possible, but 0.6 mm recommended for time-saving, stronger walls and improved sealing.
- Layer height : 0.2 to 0.25 mm depending on nozzle size
- Infill : 100 % recommended for maximum strength and perfect sealing
- Orientation: Print flat, with top of cover facing up for maximum strength and a clean surface
🥼 Food safety recommendations
- Choice of filament : A food-safe certified material is recommended or even unavoidable:
The PETG polymer itself (the “virgin” plastic) is generally considered safe for food contact in industrial applications (similar to PET in food bottles) unfortunately most PETG contain additives or colorants that are not certified for food contact. Printer components (e.g. brass nozzles, residues of other plastics) can also deposit contaminants on your print. If you're printing accessories that come into contact with food, invest in a technical material certified and approved for food contact. It's not much more expensive and perfectly suited to this use. Why deprive yourself? - Nozzle material : Prefer a stainless steel or hardened steel nozzle, brass nozzles may contain lead.
- Regular inspection : Check for cracks, wear or discoloration. Replace the cover if you notice any loss of structural integrity to maintain tightness and cleanliness.
