Description

Bio-Media Floating and Mobile - Advanced Biological Filtration

Download and make your own FIL17-3D Apiobi bio-media with your 3D printer: floating, mobile and high-performance, perfectly printable in PETG or HDPE, for professional-level biological filtration.

Presentation

This innovative 3D bio-media has been specially designed to offer optimal biological filtration, comparable to top-of-the-range models on the market.
Sa large specific surface and its optimized internal geometry promote massive colonization of beneficial bacteria, guaranteeing clear, stable, healthy water.

Key features

Versatile and adaptable

  • Works in floating filtration, moving bed, fluidized bed, or trickle filtration.

Ideal dimensions

  • Ø 17 mm × height 17 mm, designed for fluid water flow and maximum oxygenation.

Easy to print and produce

  • Weight per piece : 1 g → With 1 kg filament, you can make970 to 1000 units.
  • Simple, fast and repeatable printing.

HDPE recommended

  • Ultra-light, highly durable, chemical-resistant.
  • Offers a natural buoyancy perfect for moving systems.
  • Ideal for continuous use in freshwater or marine environments.

Durable and reliable

  • Lightweight yet robust, designed not to clog pumps and filters.
  • Resistant to abrasion and prolonged aeration cycles.

Filtration performance

  • Exceptional surface-to-volume ratio guarantees powerful biological filtration without overloading the system.

Total control

  • Print exactly the quantity you need → no surplus, no unnecessary expenses.

For whom?

Ideal for demanding aquarists, the aquaculturists, the filtration professionals and all those looking for bio-media more powerful, more economical and fully customizable.

Technical Tips for 3D Printing

Printing recommendations

This bio-media was designed to be quick and easy to print, The right settings and materials are needed for prolonged immersion.

Recommended materials

  • PETG (recommended)
This is the material I use for my own bio-medias (in white, as in the photos).
Durable, stable, non-breakable and very easy to print.
  • HDPE
The best choice if your printer can handle it.
More expensive and more technical to print (shrinkage, warping), but extremely resistant, flexible and chemically inert - ideal for long-term use in aquariums and ponds.HDPE characteristics
    • Temperature resistance over 110°C
    • Excellent chemical resistance
    • Excellent resistance to abrasion and cracking
    • Very low moisture absorption
    • UV-stable and weather-resistant
  • And why not a technical filament certified for food contact? Unless I'm mistaken, no commercially available media offer this option, which is only available in 3D printing!
  • Absolutely avoid PLA
PLA becomes brittle, swells and disintegrates on prolonged contact with water: totally inadequate media subject to numerous constraints, including constant friction 24/24 .

Recommended print settings

  • Nozzle : 0.4 mm maximum
  • Layer height : 0.2 mm
  • Walls : 0
  • High/low layers : 0
  • Infill : Gyroid 20 % (provides an excellent internal surface, perfect for bacterial colonization)

These settings produce bio-media lightweight, functional and high-performance, The internal geometry is ideal for biological filtration systems (moving bed, trickling, etc.).
