In the world of sport fishing, there are experiences that truly shape a fisherman.
And one of them\u2014perhaps the rawest, the most authentic, the most grueling\u2014consists of to fight a two-pound fish with a simple handline<\/strong>. No high-modulus carbon blanks. No reels packed with bearings. No gimmicks!
Just you, a nylon line, a sinker, a swivel, a hook\u2014and the reality of the fight.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who\u2019s tried it knows: this method of handline fishing is no joke. It\u2019s an alternative to rod-and-reel fishing that lets you travel light, explore deeper waters, and forge a closer connection with nature.
It is the oldest form of angling in history, a test of your wits against nature, where endurance, technique, and primal instinct go head to head. It is also the art of impromptu fishing, where here a earthworm is gathered on the spot under a stump, or there, while walking, a grasshopper is caught mid-leap in the tall grass\u2014the fabulous fishing style known as \u201cBohemian.\u201d.
And it was precisely with this in mind\u2014drawing on my experience and childhood memories\u2014that I designed the OdbO 3Dpecheur, an accessory more commonly known as a hobo, handline fishing gear, handline, or even the \u00abpoacher\u2019s companion.\u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the \u00abhobos\u00bb of the market are (almost all) useless<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

You see them everywhere: Etsy, Instagram, various marketplaces\u2026
Homemade wooden models and genuine varnished works of art, questionable plastic versions, copies with poor ergonomics, and 3D-printed objects made from PLA.
All listed as \u201csurvival gear,\u201d \u201chandmade,\u201d and \u201cbushcraft tools.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as I know, there are only a handful of serious models because the reality is much less glamorous:
\ud83d\udc49 The vast majority are unusable under actual fishing conditions<\/strong>, unable to launch, too small, too heavy, poorly balanced, or designed solely as a spool of thread<\/em> To pack for an emergency\u2026 of course! Believe me, a simple spool of thread is much more practical in these situations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the very beginning, the OdbO was designed to adhere to simple yet uncompromising rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Being able to cast a line 10 to 20 meters effortlessly, or fish along the shore using the \u201ctoc\u201d technique\u201d<\/strong>, or to hone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • To be ergonomic<\/strong>, featuring a genuine casting rod butt and a Premium light tackle reel spool<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Bring enough line to cast and fight a big fish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Storing fishing gear<\/strong> in the largest possible space, accessible from both ends<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Stay light, fast, reliable, and intuitive in action<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    And since none of these features were available in a single modern, functional accessory, I decided to design it myself so that you can make it yourself using your 3D printer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The model I am proposing today is the result of a a full year of iterations<\/strong>, fishing trips, upgrades, intentional breaks, adjustments\u2026and catches of perch, trout, chub, and\u2026catfish
    Each version was printed, used, and put through its paces\u2014until I finally arrived at a result that I\u2019m now satisfied with, first and foremost as a fisherman who uses it.
    Two OdbO lures will be used by a team tester during the 2026 predator fishing season in the deep waters of the lakes and under the bridges of Auvergne, as he wants to take on zander and pike using a hand-held line from a boat!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The plugs and threads have been modeled to be 3D-printed<\/strong>, with :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • a threaded hole with tolerances specified for printing with a 0.4mm nozzle and using PETG<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • two TPU gaskets included \n
        \n
      • to ensure that the caps are securely and non-destructively sealed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • to optimize the buoyancy<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • to ensure the internal cylindrical toolbox is watertight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The cap is available in two versions to suit your needs:

        The design is based on the grip and diameter of the handles found on casting or street fishing rods, to make the motion natural, powerful, precise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Legal considerations: Is handline fishing allowed?<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

        The rules vary by country.
        It is the responsibility of each angler to check local regulations.
